Director Abba T. Makama Announces ‘ODYSSEY’, a Deep Dive Documentary into 100 Years of Yoruba Music’s Evolution

Abba T. Makama has set his sights on an ambitious new project that takes a wide turn from his surrealist narrative terrain. Titled ODYSSEY, this documentary is set to unravel the journey of Yoruba music across a century, from its humble beginnings to its current global reign as seen in Afrobeats.

Through insightful interviews with key industry stakeholders, ODYSSEY will offer a narrative that delves into the influences of religion, colonialism, and social dynamics on Yoruba music. This upcoming documentary will touch genres like Sakara, Apala, Ajiwere, Fuji, Juju, and Highlife.

ODYSSEY is backed by White House Pictures and spearheaded by executive producer Bobo Omotayo, alongside producers Papa Omotayo, Tosin Ashafa, and Ife Koleowo.

Makama is known for Green White Green, The Lost Okoroshi, and Juju Stories. Bobo Omotayo is the founder of FUJI: A Opera, an entertainment platform that has hosted exhibitions and concerts such as a pop-up exhibition in London.

ODYSSEY is slated for release in 2025.
